Vietnam's Folk Board Games Arrive on the Microsoft Store
SynerWorlds has launched its free Vietnamese folk board game collection, including Ô Ăn Quan and Cờ Gánh, on the Microsoft Store for Windows.

*Ô Ăn Quan, Cờ Gánh, Cờ Nhào, Cá Ngựa and Cờ Chiếu Tướng, the traditional games of Vietnamese childhood, are now installable on Windows through the SynerWorlds.com app: free, with no ads and no in-game purchases.*
The games Vietnamese grandparents played on courtyard tiles and schoolyard grids are now sitting on the world's biggest PC software shelf. SynerWorlds (https://synerworlds.com), the free board-game hub from SynerWork Inc., has passed Microsoft certification and launched on the Microsoft Store, which means its Vietnamese folk collection can now be installed on any Windows computer like a native app, one click from the desktop or the Start menu.
The listing is live now: https://apps.microsoft.com/detail/9NMCN78HKJCZ
A childhood, preserved and playable
The folk collection inside the app includes:
- Ô Ăn Quan (Mandarin Square Capturing), the seed-sowing game of twelve squares and two mandarin squares, where every move is a small arithmetic puzzle and captures chain from one empty square to the next.
- Cờ Gánh, a fast tactical duel on a 5×5 board, eight discs a side, where surrounding your opponent's discs flips them to your colour.
- Cờ Nhào and Cá Ngựa, folk favourites handed down through generations of Vietnamese family gatherings.
- Cờ Chiếu Tướng (Vietnamese General Check), a distinctive Vietnamese chess variant built around checking the general, kept alive by a devoted local playing community.
Each game is fully playable: against a 12-level computer opponent, or in a private online room with voice chat, open a room, share the link, and a grandfather in Hanoi can play a game with a grandchild on another continent. Rules are explained in full on every page, for players discovering these games for the first time.
One account, every game, no wallet required
The Microsoft Store app uses the same single account as the SynerWorlds website, so profiles, ratings and friends carry across devices. The folk collection sits alongside international classics, Chess, Xiangqi (Chinese chess), Go, Reversi, Checkers, Gomoku, Sudoku and more, with the whole hub available in 26 languages, including Vietnamese and English, so mixed-language families can each play in their own language.
Everything is completely free. There are no ads, no in-game purchases and no gambling mechanics.
"A folk game only survives if somebody teaches it to the next player," the SynerWorlds team said. "Putting Ô Ăn Quan on the Microsoft Store means a grandchild growing up in Toronto or Texas can install the very game their grandparents grew up with, and then invite them into a room to play it together. That is how the chain stays unbroken."
