The edition built for the studying, for classrooms, book clubs, and the readers who want to build readings from evidence

NEW YORK, Oct. 29, 2026, A new edition of F. Scott Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby, built specifically for readers studying the novel together, has been published. The Great Gatsby: The Companion Edition (Companion Classics) presents the complete, unabridged text of the 1925 first edition wrapped in original companion material by editor Horace Harriott Jr.: an introduction telling the strange story of the book itself, a who's-who of every major character, five Jazz Age explainers, a guide to the novel's symbolism, a short life of Fitzgerald, an honest note on the period material in the 1925 text, and discussion questions for every chapter, a full-book set, and two essay prompts.

The introduction follows the novel's unlikely survival: respectful reviews on publication in 1925, fewer than 25,000 copies sold in Fitzgerald's lifetime, and the 155,000 free copies handed to American soldiers in 1945 that resurrected it. The five Jazz Age explainers decode the world under the parties: Prohibition and the bootleg fortune, 1920s money measured by ratio, the real geography of West Egg and East Egg, the cars, and the music and slang. The symbolism guide, the green light, the eyes of T. J. Eckleburg, the valley of ashes, the stopped clock, the shirts, teaches readers to build readings from evidence instead of handing them conclusions.

Alongside the book, two printable companions are available in the editor's Payhip store: The Great Gatsby Book Club Kit ($7), with the edition's schedule, who's-who, explainers, symbolism guide, and discussion questions arranged for group reading, https://payhip.com/b/30BGg, and a Teacher/Student Study Pack ($12.99) with chapter quizzes, answer keys, and a unit plan: https://payhip.com/b/PD4av

The Great Gatsby: The Companion Edition is available now as an eBook ($9.99) through Payhip: https://payhip.com/b/8MerD, paperback and Kindle editions follow on Amazon. The novel's text is public domain; all companion material is original to this edition. This is an independent publication, not affiliated with or endorsed by any other edition or adaptation.
