SOUTH AFRICAN CYBERSECURITY ENGINEER PREPARES TO LAUNCH PAKSTOOR TO TACKLE ONLINE MARKETPLACE SCAMS
Cape Town, South Africa | 23 October 2026
South African cybersecurity engineer Tertius Wait is preparing to launch Pakstoor, a marketplace designed to reduce the risks of buying and selling new and second-hand goods online.
Pakstoor integrates TradeSafe escrow payments with automated courier booking and tracking through The Courier Guy. For courier transactions, sellers can verify that payment is secured within Pakstoor before dispatching goods, and buyers have a 72-hour inspection window after delivery to check the item and raise a dispute where necessary. The platform also supports in-person handovers, with both parties confirming completion inside the platform rather than relying on payment screenshots.
Sellers pay zero commission. Buyers pay a disclosed 2.5% buyer protection fee plus the applicable TradeSafe payment-processing fee. Courier charges are passed through without a Pakstoor markup.
The startup is also developing My Store, a branded storefront feature for registered businesses and sole proprietors, with a planned annual fee of 199 Rand. Product, service and rental offerings are planned, with booking functionality being developed in stages.
"People should not have to gamble with their money every time they buy something from a stranger online," says Wait. "We wanted to build something that makes secure transactions accessible to ordinary South Africans without making the process complicated."
Wait brings approximately two decades of technology and cybersecurity experience to the project. Pakstoor has been built around structured transaction workflows, visibility, audit trails and automated operational processes.
Pakstoor has received approval for its TradeSafe production environment and is completing final end-to-end testing before its planned public launch ahead of Black Friday 2026. Early registration is open.
The company recognises that no system can eliminate every online transaction risk, but aims to reduce common fraud opportunities through payment safeguards, guided handovers and integrated delivery.
