The complete canon, cross-checked against the early editions, with the famous traps tested on the page
NEW YORK, Oct. 29, 2026, The complete Sherlock Holmes, all of it, in one volume, has been published as an eBook. Sherlock Holmes, The Complete Canon (Companion Classics) presents Arthur Conan Doyle's four novels and fifty-six short stories, 655,769 words of canon from A Study in Scarlet (1887) to the last Case-Book story of 1927, in the order Doyle published them, wrapped in original companion material by editor Horace Harriott Jr.: an introduction, a who's-who, five explainers, a short life of Doyle, a canon table of all sixty works with their first-publication dates, and 53 discussion questions.
The texts follow the early book editions and were verified the hard way, cross-checked against scans of those editions, with the famous traps tested on the page: the phrase "Elementary, my dear Watson" occurs zero times in the canon (the word "Elementary" occurs once, in The Crooked Man), the word "deerstalker" never appears at all, and Watson's Jezail wound really does move from his shoulder to his leg between the first two novels. Every heading and the order of contents were taken from the texts themselves.
The introduction follows the Strand phenomenon, the death at Reichenbach, and the return. The who's-who covers the canon's essential figures, from Holmes and Watson to Toby the tracking dog. The five explainers take up the science of deduction and real Victorian forensics; the Strand magazine and Sidney Paget, whose pictures fixed the detective's image; Holmes's London; the chronology puzzle of the wandering wound and the marriages; and Doyle against Holmes, the creator who tired of his detective. An honest note addresses reading the period text.
Alongside the book, the Sherlock Holmes, The Complete Canon Book Club Kit offers the edition's discussion material as a printable PDF, arranged as a four-meeting season through all sixty works, with a fourteen-story fast track for groups that want the famous cases first. The kit is available for $7 through the editor's Payhip store: https://payhip.com/b/UoXsy
Sherlock Holmes, The Complete Canon is available now as an eBook ($9.99) through Payhip: https://payhip.com/b/qtZKI, the complete canon is native to a single digital volume; a printed multi-volume set is planned.
