searchit: The Chatbot That Gets Things Done
Vienna-based Iphos IT Solutions launches the searchit Chatbot, an AI agent that answers customer queries with sourced facts and takes follow-up actions, priced from €19/month.
The Chatbot Checks the Facts, Knows the Business and Takes Action - From €19 a Month
Vienna, Austria - 13 October 2026 - It's 10.47pm on a Friday. A customer has lost the key to her rented flat and wants to know whether her liability insurance will cover it. Her insurer is closed for the weekend, and the website offers nothing more than a contact form.
This is exactly the kind of moment the searchit Chatbot was built for. Developed by a Vienna-based software company, the chatbot has done its reading - from insurance policy terms to the GDPR - and knows the company's own documents inside out. Better still, it takes the next step itself: it records the customer's request, emails her to ask for any missing documents and passes the complete case to the right team. Every answer comes with a source.
Following the launch of the searchit AI Agent for employees, businesses can now offer their customers a digital case handler too.
From Information Desk to Case Handler
Most chatbots on company websites are little more than a digital information desk. They know the website and a few uploaded files, answer a single question - and then send the customer to a contact form or helpline anyway. That has consequences: according to a Gartner survey of 3,566 customers, only 27 per cent would use a chatbot again after a bad experience.
"A chatbot that only provides information still ends up sending the customer to the contact form," says Christoph Wendl, CEO of searchit. "Ours handles the first step: it checks the facts, records the case and files everything so that nobody has to chase up details on Monday. The final decision is always made by a person."
Answers Backed by Sources
In the case of the lost key, the chatbot looks up the policy terms and quotes the relevant section: losing keys that belong to someone else - such as a landlord - is covered, but losing your own is not. It then asks whether the key is for private or business use.
The chatbot can handle large volumes of specialist content. One searchit demo chatbot knows the EU AI Act and the GDPR in full, article by article, including the recitals. Another knows the EU Cosmetics Regulation and more than 36,000 ingredients from the European Commission's database. Ask about a rule, and the answer includes the article number. If the chatbot can't find a reliable answer, it says so rather than guessing.
Built on the Company's Own Knowledge
Behind the chatbot is searchit, an enterprise search platform that makes a company's entire document library accessible - from file servers and SharePoint to manuals, contracts and information sheets, including PDFs and scanned documents. More than 100 sources can be connected. Using AI, searchit reads every document and links people, companies and products in a knowledge graph. That means a search for "notice period" will also find "end of contract".
To keep internal information private, the chatbot works behind a filter. For each website, the company decides which content is meant for customers - for example terms and conditions, information sheets, product data sheets and manuals. The chatbot uses only this content. Internal documents such as cost calculations, personnel files and correspondence are excluded. Crucially, this restriction is enforced by the software itself, not by instructions given to the language model - so even a cleverly worded question can't get around it.
"A chatbot can only take action if it knows how the business works - the price list, the terms, the information sheets, previous cases," says Wendl. "We've been making that knowledge accessible to companies with searchit for many years. The chatbot now opens it up to their customers."
Taking Action - Within Clear Limits
Companies decide exactly what each chatbot is allowed to do. It can send emails and create contacts and, via connected systems, log tickets or insurance claims and prepare quotes.
Back to the lost key: on Friday evening, the customer receives a confirmation email listing the documents still needed for her claim. At 7.30am on Monday, the claims handler finds the complete case waiting for her - the customer's details, the relevant policy clause and the documents already requested. She, not the chatbot, decides whether the claim is paid.
The same approach works across industries. In an online shop, the chatbot recommends products based on their ingredients and emails the advice along with a product list. For a manufacturer, it reads data sheets and the price list, captures the customer's requirements and emails them to the sales team, together with a draft quote and the right contact person. At a law firm, it explains the legal position article by article - clearly as information, not legal advice - and takes requests for an initial consultation.
Six Characters to Try
Anyone can try it out at searchit-agent.ai/chatbot. Six chatbots, each with its own character and area of expertise, are ready to answer questions - among them an insurance adviser, a lawyer specialising in the AI Act and data protection, and a beauty influencer who explains skincare ingredients.
All six run on the same product; only the profile is different. Companies simply describe the role, tone and language they want in a few sentences - whether that's formal, local dialect or cheeky. The demo versions only answer questions; the actions a chatbot can take for a business are defined during setup.
Two Lines of Code, From €19 a Month
The chatbot can be added to any website with just two lines of code. Companies then adjust its appearance, instructions, language model and conversation limits online, and can preview the result before going live. Several chatbots can run on a single installation.
Cloud hosting starts at €19 a month for up to 500 documents, with pricing based on the size of the document library. This includes updates, indexing of the website and documents, and answers with source references. Language model usage is billed separately - either directly by the provider or through searchit at list price plus 10 per cent. All prices exclude VAT. The chatbot always identifies itself as an AI, and this notice cannot be switched off.
