NEW YORK, Oct. 29, 2026, A new edition of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice built specifically for reading together, in book clubs, classrooms, and re-reads, has been published. Pride and Prejudice: The Companion Edition (Companion Classics, Book 1) presents Austen's complete, unabridged 1813 text in a 532-page volume wrapped in original companion material by editor Horace Harriott Jr.: a new introduction, a who's-who of the characters, eight Regency-era explainers, a guide to the eight letters on which the plot turns, and 189 discussion questions, three for every chapter, written to be spoiler-fenced so early chapters never give away later twists.

The edition is timed to the new screen adaptation of the novel, which premieres December 3, 2026 and is expected to bring a large new audience to Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy. Its built-in reading schedule finishes Volume 1 before the premiere and the complete novel by Christmas. The Companion Edition is an independent publication and is not affiliated with or endorsed by the producers of any screen adaptation.

"Two centuries of readers have quoted the first sentence," said Horace Harriott Jr., the edition's editor. "This edition is for the ones who want to argue about the rest. The novel's biggest moments arrive by letter, its jokes run on rules nobody explains anymore, and its debates, about money, manners, and marrying well, are exactly the ones a good book club wants to have. The companion material exists to hand readers those threads."

The eight Regency explainers decode the machinery under the comedy: the entail that hangs over the Bennet family, what "ten thousand a year" actually meant, the marriage market and the making of an "accomplished" young lady, calls and cards and balls, clergy livings and patronage, the militia in Meryton, and elopement and ruin. A separate guide walks through the novel's eight key letters, who wrote each, what they wanted, and what they left out.

Alongside the book, Harriott has released the Pride and Prejudice, Book Club Kit, a 38-page printable PDF containing the edition's who's-who, explainers, letters guide, and all 189 discussion questions arranged as a three-meeting schedule, with notes pages; the questions are licensed for book-club use. The kit is available for $7 through the author's Payhip store: https://payhip.com/b/TC8h6

Pride and Prejudice: The Companion Edition is available now on Amazon in paperback ($16.99), hardcover ($27.99), and Kindle eBook ($9.99): https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0HPMXNN48, a 60-second book trailer accompanies the edition's launch.
