Go players no longer need to install anything to face one of the strongest Go engines in the world. The engine runs on the player's own device using WebAssembly: open the page, and the game is ready, with no download, no install and no account required to start playing.

A ladder from first game to strong amateur

KataGo's strength is scaled across the site's standard 12-level ladder: lower levels limit the engine's search so new players can learn against forgiving opposition, while the top levels give the engine full thinking time for a serious game. If a device or browser cannot run the engine, the game automatically falls back to the site's built-in opponent, so a game is never interrupted.
