*New community borehole in Nasarawa State brings cleaner water closer to homes, easing the daily burden on women and children.*
*HEREFORD, UK - October 2026* - For years, children in Angwan Kyauta, a rural community in Nigeria's Nasarawa State, faced a difficult choice each morning: spend precious hours fetching water or arrive late for school. That daily struggle is now being eased following the completion of a community borehole funded through donations from Hope Spring eCards.
The project, delivered by UK-based charity Hope Spring Water, provides families in Angwan Kyauta, Garaku, Kokona Local Government Area, with a more accessible source of cleaner water, reducing their dependence on distant streams and other unreliable sources.
Previously, residents sometimes crosses a busy highway. Women and children carried much of this responsibility, losing valuable time that could otherwise be spent on education, household activities and earning a living.
For schoolchildren, the new borehole means fewer early-morning journeys to fetch water and more time to prepare for lessons. Mothers have also welcomed the improvement, particularly the convenience of having cleaner water available for cooking, washing and everyday household needs.
From Community Assessment to Lasting Change
The project followed a water needs assessment conducted by Hope Spring Water in July 2026. The assessment identified the community's limited access to dependable water supplies and documented the challenges residents faced.
Hope Spring volunteers Peter Hamidu and Boluwatife Olorunfemi supported the initiative. Hamidu participated in the initial field assessment, while Olorunfemi helped document the project's progress and community impact.
How a Simple Greeting Helped Fund a Borehole
The borehole was financed through optional donations made by supporters using Hope Spring eCards, a charitable greeting card platform offering digital cards for birthdays, Christmas, anniversaries and other celebrations.
By choosing a charity eCard and making a donation, supporters contributed towards transforming an everyday gesture into a practical solution for a community facing water poverty.
The completed borehole demonstrates how small individual contributions can collectively deliver meaningful improvements in people's lives.
Hope Spring Water thanked its donors, volunteers and the Angwan Kyauta community for their contributions to the project's success.
The charity hopes to extend similar support to other underserved communities where families continue to spend hours collecting water.
You can support future Hope Spring Water projects by donating to the water borehole projects through Hope Spring Water's official channels, or send a charity greeting through Hope Spring eCards.
