The newly published article focuses on a frequently overlooked step in cross-border freight: the condition and traceability of each product and carton before the shipment leaves the supplier. It recommends recording product names, unit sizes and quantities; photographing retail labels; protecting fragile bottles and pumps; preventing movement inside cartons; and keeping the packing list consistent with the physical goods. Carton dimensions and actual weight should be recorded because air-freight quotes may depend on volumetric weight.

For e-commerce inventory, the checklist extends beyond the export carton. It encourages importers to agree how stock will be counted, stored, picked, packed and handed to the final-mile delivery provider, and how cash-on-delivery collections and returns will be reconciled.
