58 Families in Switzerland Now Employ Their Cleaner or Nanny Legally, in English, with Zurich Startup Clino
Clino, a Zurich software startup, has helped 58 households in 11 Swiss cantons register their cleaner, nanny or carer with a contract, social security and monthly payslips since April 2026.
ZURICH, Switzerland, 16 October 2026. Clino, a software startup from Zurich, today announced that 58 families in 11 Swiss cantons now use its service to employ their household help legally. Since the service went live in April 2026, 59 cleaners, nannies and carers have received a written contract, a monthly payslip and contributions towards their Swiss state pension (AHV).
In Switzerland, a household that pays someone to clean, look after children or care for a relative is an employer, even for a few hours a week. It has to register the worker with the cantonal social security office, take out accident insurance, agree on a contract, issue monthly payslips and provide an annual salary statement. The forms are in German, French or Italian, which is a particular hurdle for the many international residents who employ help at home. Clino estimates that around 250,000 Swiss households employ someone without registering them.
"As a newcomer you want to do everything right, even when nobody tells you how," said Salvador Jovells, founder of Clino, who moved from Spain to Zurich in 2017. "I built Clino so that employing someone at home the right way is also the easy way."
Families enter the worker's name, wage, hours and canton. Clino then prepares the employment contract, the pre-filled registration form, the monthly payslips and the annual salary statement, and explains each step. The family remains the employer and submits the documents itself. Clino works in all 26 cantons and in six languages, including English, and costs CHF 19.90 per month. More information on how to register a cleaner in Switzerland is available at https://clino.ch/en/register-cleaner-switzerland.
For workers, registration matters over a lifetime: each year without contributions leaves a gap in their pension record. Across the payslips issued through Clino, an average of CHF 1,741 per family per year is paid into Swiss social insurance. Live figures are published at https://clino.ch/en/mission.
Clino's next goal is 1,000 families. On 27 October 2026, Salvador Jovells will present Clino at the NXTUP startup evening in Zurich.
