Global Wine Stocks - vinoXML, open standard for exchange of wine information.
GlobalWineStocks.com is one of the largest search engines for wine prices, the largest source of wine market values for wine collectors and one of the largest sources of wine profiles and producer profiles on the Internet. Now all this information is available using vinoXML. February 26, 2007 – Global Wine Stocks (www.globalwinestocks.com) announces it's support for the vinoXML effort to provide an open standard for the exchange of wine information. GWS is supporting version 1.0 as well as the new version 1.1. The service allows a user with an active paid subscription to search for a wine profile or a producer profile and then extract this information, including the image of the bottle label, into a vinoXML file to import it into their favorite vinoXML compatible wine cellar software. Never have to retype wine information. Eric McGee, owner of GlobalWineStocks.com, is very proud of this new service: "Often while using wine cellar software what would stopped me, much like anyone else, was the number of hours it takes to input all my wine information in it. Now, I can just search the info and import it directly into the software without retyping. Instead of looking for software that offers a lot of wine profile I can look for the features I really want in that software.” About GlobalWineStocks.com Since 2005, GWS is aggregating wine prices from online sources using proprietary technology. Finding a wine price is very easy and intuitive, free membership allows performing searches that often require paid membership at competitors’ websites. Advanced fee-based membership gives access to wine valuation and investment services. GWS currently offers over 2 million current wine prices among 10,000 online worldwide merchants. You can also search over 175,000 individual wine profiles with more than 50,000 wine labels and over 80,000 wine producers’ profiles, making it one of the largest online sources of wine information. For full details, visit http://www.globalwinestocks.com About vinoXML In late 2005 there was no standard to allow the exchange of information on wine. This meant that web sites would provide such information, as the description of the wine, detailed tasting notes, details about the vineyard, how the wine was made etc., in a form which did not allow an easy exchange of that information between wine professionals and/or enthusiasts. Therefore when someone would find this information they could just copy it using basic options like copy/paste, print the web page or maybe download a PDF file provided by the site. If they then wanted to record this information in their favorite wine cellar program they had to retype this information! vinoXML wanted to correct this situation and therefore a few authors of wine management programs got together in late 2005 to create a standard. Version 1.0 of the standard has been released in early 2006 and version 1.1 is available since February 2007.
