A Scottish couple returned to a Stratford hotel for the first time after spending their honeymoon in the town 42 years ago. Graham and Linda Robertson were married in Betws-y-Coed in Snowdonia in North Wales in 1966 and spent part of their honeymoon at The Legacy Falcon Hotel on November 15 and 16. The couple, who live in Livingston, had not been back to the venue in Chapel Street until a family weekend was organised to celebrate the 65th birthday of Graham’s eldest brother, Michael, and the 80th birthday of their uncle, Kennedy Morrison. Graham, who is a retired forester, said he had fond memories of The Legacy Falcon Hotel and the town of Stratford-upon-Avon. “We were married in North Wales where Linda is from and we then travelled to Chester for the first couple of nights before driving to Stratford to spend two nights at the Falcon,” he said. “It was a smashing atmosphere with good food and it was amazing to be in a 500-year-old hotel as well as such an historical town like Stratford. “I liked it then and having been there at the weekend, I still like it even though part of it has been modernised. “There were 23 family and friends who made the trip from all over the UK including our son and daughter, Steven and Anne, and it was great to get everybody together to celebrate Michael and Kennedy’s birthdays.” Jason Mayglothling, manager of The Legacy Falcon Hotel, said the hotel had undergone many changes since the Robertson’s last visit including the £2.25 million refurbishment which was completed this spring. “It was wonderful to welcome the Robertson’s back to the hotel for the first time since 1966,” he said. “I am delighted the group had a weekend to remember and that they were impressed with the changes that have been made here since their last visit. “We have received plenty of favourable comments about the refurbishment from our regular guests as well as those that haven’t been for a while and I hope the Robertson’s will make a return visit again very soon.”
