Sunriver, Ore. – RE/MAX Sunset Realty has continued its annual commitment of sponsoring a sick child through Sparrow Clubs USA (www.sparrowclubs.org) with the help of their team of real estate brokers, and the students of La Pine High School. The chosen “Sparrow” for 2007 is Joshua James, a 16-year old who was diagnosed with a juvenile hormonal tumor that was extensive in his face, skull, and brain this past July. He has had four surgeries and recovery is expected to be a year or more. Joshua will need MRIs and other tests every three to six months to determine if continued treatment is necessary. At this time, he is visiting an Ophthalmologist every month to monitor the complete recovery of eyesight and movement in his left eye. Don’t think for a second that Joshua’s medical condition prevents him from acting like a normal teenager. He enjoys hanging out with his friends, golfing, drawing and listening to music. Joshua was excited to return to his job at the Village Bar and Grill in Sunriver where he works hard bussing tables, which has paid off—he has managed to buy his very own car, computer and computer desk. Each year, RE/MAX Sunset Realty contributes a club sponsorship fee of $4,060, which is allocated to a specific “Sparrow”. The sponsorship underwrites the adoption costs of one particular child in medical need—the Sparrow—to a group of heroic kids—the Sparrow Club—who make it their cause to do a minimum of 256 hours of community service and raise support for their child. As a result of the hard work from the group of students at La Pine High School and the donation from RE/MAX Sunset Realty, Joshua and his mom, a single mother on a fixed income, will receive funds to assist with the medical expenses that insurance doesn’t cover and travel costs for the frequent trips to OHSU for follow up care. “I personally believe wholeheartedly in the mission and accomplishments of Sparrow Clubs USA – in a nutshell, Sparrow Clubs USA is about children helping children.” We as a company continue to sponsor Sparrow Clubs annually and in recent years our agents have participated along with us, and we’re extremely proud of the way they stepped up with their personal cash donation” said Ron Tolley, Principal Broker/Manager of RE/MAX Sunset Realty. “All of us at RE/MAX Sunset Realty appreciate the good that the Sparrow Club accomplishes and are thankful that we are able to be a part of such a wonderful organization.” In addition to being a Sparrow Club sponsor, the independently owned and operated RE/MAX Sunset Realty is also involved in co-hosting an annual fundraiser gala and golf classic (www.wingdinggala.com), in conjunction with the Central Oregon area RE/MAX Offices. The RE/MAX Offices of Central Oregon Wing Ding Gala and Golf Classic brings together hundreds of supporters, golfers, and business leaders throughout the community and the Pacific Northwest with all proceeds benefiting the Sparrow Clubs.
