Confirmation has been received from Emirates that the favourite longhaul destination for both business and leisure travellers departing from Newcastle is Australia.

A spokesperson said that since the launch of flights from Newcastle to Dubai, it is easy to reach destinations such as Australia and praised Emirates for their efforts in providing a boost to Australian tourism by making the connection so much less time consuming for those out of the north-east,as previously it was a case of having to fly into either other larger UK or European destinations to make the connection in Dubai.

Stephen Pearse, Emirate's commercial vice president, said that Australians were happy with the results of an increase in sales to the region and especially to Western Australia.
