Written by Mark O'Bornick
Monday, 19 February 2007

This week's Logistics Bulletin reports on yet more M&A developments. In the US, EGL has revealed that it has authorised its financial advisor to solicit interest from third parties for the sale of the Company. Elsewhere, Palletways Europe, Europe's largest and fastest growing pallet freight network, has acquired the Italian operation it licensed out in 2002 and ProLogis has acquired the industrial development business of Parkridge, a leading European developer of distribution centres.

Amongst contract wins reported this week is new business for KN Drinks Logistics, who will be responsible for all Anheuser-Busch brands in the UK, which include Budweiser, Bud Silver, Bud Ice, Michelob, Michelob ULTRA and Harbin. Also in the UK, Wincanton continues to expand in the construction sector, with news of a new contract with Brett Landscaping and Building Products to manage national distribution for the building materials specialist.

Elsewhere, DC developments this week focus on the retail sector in the US, UK and Eastern Europe, whilst economic forecasts reveal that GDP growth in Europe is set to continue at a relatively brisk pace, though moderating to 2.4% in the euro area and 2.7% in the EU.

Anheuser-Busch Europe awards contract to KN Drinks Logistics

14 February 2007 - Anheuser-Busch Europe Ltd has appointed KN Drinks Logistics, part of the Kuehne + Nagel global logistics network, to handle UK distribution and warehousing operations. Beginning in June 2007, KN Drinks Logistics will be responsible for all Anheuser-Busch brands in the UK, which include Budweiser, Bud Silver, Bud Ice, Michelob, Michelob ULTRA and Harbin.

KN Drinks Logistics offers a shared user distribution network with eight regional distribution centres located throughout the UK dedicated to the specific needs of the drinks industry. The network will deliver Anheuser-Busch brands to on- and off-trade customers throughout the UK.

KN Drinks Logistics will be supporting Anheuser-Busch with dedicated customer service and stock deployment teams, and a planned new shared user facility in the Midlands. In addition, KN Drinks Logistics will manage export activity from the UK to Western Europe and the Middle East on behalf of Anheuser-Busch.

Urban Transport Policy in Europe: Meeting City Demands for Green Logistics

 New Research from Analytiqa

Urban Transport Policy in Europe: Meeting City Demands for Green Logistics takes an in-depth look at the current initiatives and legislation currently being planned and implemented across twenty cities in twelve European countries across both West and Eastern Europe.

The issues addressed are those that will have the greatest impact on providers working within the express, logistics or supply chain arena. It is critical that hauliers, courier and express, logistics and distribution companies across all sectors understand and account for changes in their operational environment.

This report will assist decision makers within these organisations to ensure correct future investment into vehicles, resources, strategies and services that are not only compliant with future environmental legislation (Euro 4, Euro IV, Euro 5, Euro V, etc) and developments, but more importantly, are considered and hence able to take full advantage of some of the opportunities the future, 'greener', market will provide.
