Friday 15th December 2006 – This week's Logistics Bulletin reports on the name change of TNT Logistics to CEVA Logistics, which along with the Company's new corporate identity completes the transition from a corporate division to a stand-alone logistics company. Elsewhere, Con-way and General Motors have agreed on a valuation for Vector SCM and the GLS Group has acquired the parcel and general cargo business of ABX Belgium Distribution.
In the healthcare sector, following Tyco International's announcement that it would split into three separate publicly traded companies, the Senior Management team for Tyco Healthcare has been announced including the appointment of Vice President Global Supply Chain. Staying in healthcare, AstraZeneca has reviewed its supply chain operations in the UK and has subsequently issued invitations to tender to various logistics companies, in order to enhance distribution of its medicines.
Distribution centre news includes Gazeley building a DC for ASDA in the UK, ProLogis has leased space to Ozburn-Hessey Logistics in the US, whilst it has also acquired eight distribution centres in Japan. Staying in the Asia Pacific region, Toll Holdings has announced it is to divide its Group in to separate businesses; one for the supply chain and one concentrating on networks. In employment news, UPS is offering an additional 650 employees voluntary redundancy, whilst senior appointments have been made at BAX Global and Schneider Logistics.

UPS to cut a further 650 Supply Chain Solutions jobs 11 December 2006 - UPS has offered voluntary redundancy to approximately 650 employees as part of the Company's ongoing effort to eliminate redundant positions. Cutting these 650 jobs is in addition to the job reductions at UPS Supply Chain Solutions announced in October. The impact of the voluntary redundancy opportunity on financial results will not be determined until after the personal election period is completed on January 29th, 2007. The Company will discuss any significant financial impact from this action during its fourth quarter earnings call on January 30th, 2007.
