Analytiqa: Logistics Bulletin: Friday 09th March
Written by Mark O'Bornick
Monday, 12 March 2007
This week's Logistics Bulletin is dominated by distribution centre developments across the world, with household names such as Coca-Cola (in Eastern Europe), Nike, Whirlpool and Sears (all in the US) making improvements to their supply chains. In Asia, EMC is partnering with DHL Exel Supply Chain to locate a logistics centre in Hong Kong, ProLogis is expanding into inland China and Kuehne + Nagel has opened a new state-of-the-art logistics facility in Melbourne, Australia. In Europe, Rhenus Logistics has acquired a 70,000 m2 site in Germany, whilst in the Middle East, ARAMEX is launching cool chain solutions for flowers and perishables.

Elsewhere, Analytiqa's latest research, "Western European Logistics 2007" reveals that spending on logistics services across the Automotive, Consumer, Pharmaceutical, Retail and Technology industries is set to increase by €30.0 billion over the next five years as the size of outsourced logistics market grows by 33%.

However, Analytiqa's research provides a warning to third party logistics providers (3PLs) that in some countries and industry sectors, growth opportunities will be difficult to find. 380+ data tables provide a detailed, comprehensive analysis of the 'health' of the Western European logistics industry and forecasts for its future development.

Coca-Cola opens Polish logistics centre
05 March 2007 - Coca-Cola HBC Polska has opened another (following its Radzymin’ Logistics Centre) modern Logistics Centre at the Staniatki plant near Kraków.
The investment was undertaken as a part of modernisation and expansion of this production facility – one of four CCHBC production centres in Poland.
The need to increase CCHBC Polska production and distribution capacity results from increasing market demand and growing sales.
Coca-Cola was first produced in Staniatki in June 1993; today, the plant provides some 28.0% of CCHBC production in Poland. The facility operates three bottling lines: two for PET (0.5; 1; 2 and 2.5 litres) and one for reusable 0.2l glass bottles. Every day, up to 100 TIR lorries pick up Coca-Cola from the plant.
The new Logistics Centre, which takes up 7,000 m2 with space for 18,000 pallets, will become a distribution point for all beverages produced here to the Malopolska region, to other distribution centres in Poland, as well as CCHBC European markets.

Urban Transport Policy in Europe: Meeting City Demands for Green Logistics
New Research from Analytiqa
Urban Transport Policy in Europe: Meeting City Demands for Green Logistics takes an in-depth look at the current initiatives and legislation currently being planned and implemented across twenty cities in twelve European countries across both West and Eastern Europe.
The issues addressed are those that will have the greatest impact on providers working within the express, logistics or supply chain arena. It is critical that hauliers, courier and express, logistics and distribution companies across all sectors understand and account for changes in their operational environment.
This report will assist decision makers within these organisations to ensure correct future investment into vehicles, resources, strategies and services that are not only compliant with future environmental legislation (Euro 4, Euro IV, Euro 5, Euro V, etc) and developments, but more importantly, are considered and hence able to take full advantage of some of the opportunities the future, 'greener', market will provide.
