Vialtus Solutions (formerly Pipex Business) is working with virtual network operator (VNO) Vanco to incorporate WiMAX-powered wireless broadband solutions into its WAN portfolio.
The solution is based on FREEDOM4’s WiMAX-powered wireless broadband service and follows a successful customer pilot in Milton Keynes and Manchester. With no fixed line required, WiMAX is quick and easy to install, providing a ‘personal’ wireless broadband experience to users whenever they are in a WiMAX zone. This is ideal for businesses such as retailers, construction companies, or for major events, that need to deploy a secure, business-strength wireless broadband network quickly. The FREEDOM4-powered service can also provide reliable wireless services with symmetrical upload and download speeds and is perfect for businesses that need faster upload speeds for sending large files.
Under its supplier-independent VNO approach, Vanco will offer the solutions to large national and multi-national businesses – both current and prospective customers.
Vanco’s experience in integrating networking technologies is a good match for helping businesses deploy WiMAX for the first time. Andy Sumner, Managing Director of Vanco UK explains: “As the first major global network services provider to take on and offer a wireless broadband service built on WiMAX technology, we are ideally placed to offer this service to corporate enterprises.
“The benefits of WiMAX technology are that it’s simple to set up and extremely user friendly, with no wires and availability in areas that alternatives such as DSL and cable systems may not be able to achieve. Meanwhile, this exemplifies one of the core benefits of our VNO approach – our customers can quickly and easily utilise new technologies within their existing WAN, monitor it on existing systems, and have it managed by a single provider. This is not something asset based carriers can offer their customers quickly and easily,” continues Sumner.
As a FREEDOM4 distributor, Vialtus Solutions will provide Vanco with first line support and offer additional services, such as managed hosting, where required. “We are delighted to be working with Vanco, which has established a strong reputation in the marketplace for implementing solutions based on its asset-light VNO approach,” says Maria Cappella, Managing Director of Vialtus Solutions. “The potential for WiMAX is enormous for businesses which crave flexibility, availability and security in wireless broadband provision.”
Graham Currier, Business Development Director at FREEDOM4, adds, “2008 has been touted as the year of WiMAX in the UK and here we are seeing another step in developing a robust broadband wireless solution for corporate users. WiMAX offers the benefits of a ‘personal’ wireless service for staff on the move, temporary installations and those needing to send as well as receive large files.”
