National Savings Bank (NSB), the pioneer in the savings banking industry, partnered with Sri Lanka Telecom as their total communication solutions provider. The nation’s premier telecommunication provider recently signed an agreement with NSB for a Total Communication Solution for NSB island-wide branch & ATM network.

Powered by SLT’s state-of-the-art communication facilities NSB expects to network the Head Office, 111 branches, 18 ATM machines and 08 saving centers within a virtual private network. The IP-VPN Solution (Internet Protocol Virtual Private Network) deployed is capable of carrying voice and mission critical data reliably and in a cost effective manner while ensuring information is shared in a secure environment.

Mr. Upali Gunaratne, Chairman of NSB stated "As a bank that is in charge of encouraging, promoting and developing the banking sector to provide adequate, efficient and attractive banking services, we need the backing of state-of-the-art technology. SLT Intelligent Solutions has enhanced our productivity and service efficiency and affected our overall performance".

In addition to the main connectivity on IP-VPN, all branch sites will be provided with back up systems allowing the country-wide branch & ATM network of NSB to have access to a centralized IT network at any given time. NSB This IP-VPN solution would allow country-wide branch & ATM network of NSB to have access to a centralized IT network at any given time which will enable them to communicate with each other and the head office via phone (voice), video Conferencing, or data (email, internet) at a minimal cost. SLT’s communication solution will gear NSB bank to open branch offices in any remote area in the future and still be able to offer the same level of efficient service offered by any of the more metropolitan bank branches. NSB has always been a very proactive player in the Banking Arena competeting against younger banks more and more aggressively, SLT’s technology is projected to give them an edge through cost savings from efficient inter-branch communication and increased productivity resulting from cost-effective real-time communication.

SLTs IP VPN technology will deliver both network cost savings through enhanced internal communication and real business benefits. This will also enable further customer satisfaction for NSB through quick transactions, prompt settlements and less time wasted on paper work. The investment of the proposed design will also be scalable for future multimedia services such as video conferencing, e-learning, video streaming etc. and high speed broadband Ethernet connectivity.

SLT CEO Shuhei Anan said “National Savings Bank is a long term client of SLT and this solution will produce desired cost savings while maintaining the required network security and remote access. This will in turn support NSB’s future expansion, Branches, ATMs & Savings centers.” He further remarked that SLT has serviced many financial institutions of which over 95% had great success with SLT solutions.
