FoneShield UK Ltd, a UK mobile phone insurance provider, has launched the first insurance cover that will protect against default on customer cashback claims included in mobile phone deals.

Launched as, 'CaShield', this is the first premium insurance product that covers both the handset and redemption based cashback offers, and is due to be sold through the independent mobile phone dealerships.

“Our CaShield product has been developed in response to the growing customer concerns over claiming cashback from dealers. This is forcing customers to abandon the small innovative dealer for the likes of High Street Chains or go direct to the Mobile Networks. This trend will damage our vibrant mobile phone sector in the UK, as it will reduce consumer choice.” Commented Amian Moaven, Director of FoneShield.

“ Whether we like it or not, cashback remains the only effective way that the independent dealer can compete with the reduced line rental offers made by networks and multiple High Street retailers. We see an opportunity to support responsible independent mobile phone dealers with this innovative product.” he continued.

The product is available to independent dealers with any existing FoneShield mobile phone insurance policy taken out at the time of new contract purchase.

CaShield product is a £2.00 premium on an existing handset insurance policy which will cover up to £350 against theft and damage and up to £250 for any unfulfilled cashback or gift items. Independent dealers can absorb the premium into their deals, if they are looking for convert sales, or they offer it as an option to customers as an addition to their normal handset insurance.

FoneShield is an FSA regulated insurance provider, based in Central London and has been operating since 2005. It is one of the first to offer an online, self-service option to mobile phone dealers.
