Edinburgh City Korfball Club successful in national lottery funding bid; ECKC receives nearly £4,000 |

Edinburgh City Korfball Club has been awarded £3, 730 from Awards for All, a consortium of the Heritage Lottery Fund, Scottish Arts Council, Sports Scotland and Big lottery Fund. Over the next year the club plans to use the award to develop the club and its members through purchasing new equipment, organising a local tournament and providing a greater opportunity for participating in UK tournaments improving the overall quality of Korfball played in Scotland. Club President, Neil Hayes says “For the past few years we have been striving to raise the profile of korfball in Scotland and we look forward to being able to intensify our efforts in future” Scottish Korfball Association Coach, Bethany Lorrimer says “The SKA is pleased that Awards for All have chosen to support Edinburgh City Korfball Club in their plans for the development of Korfball in Scotland and hopes that the increased levels of skill and participation made possible by this award will aid in the raising of the profile of Scottish Korfball” Korfball is the world’s only true mixed team sport with the rules laid down so that both men and women have equal opportunities. Dutch in origin, the game is played by two teams of 8 (4 men, 4 women) on a rectangular pitch 40m by 20m. The Club recently hosted its first tournament where a range of clubs from the UK and Europe took part. Two members of the Club have been selected to represent Scotland in South Africa this June as part of the Commonwealth & Friends Championship. The club represented Scotland in the 2007 Europa Cup coming 5th in Korfball’s “Champions league”.
