Outstanding efforts were commended at the annual Dorset Funeral Plan Cricket Saturday League presentation. A record 89 clubs from all over the county took part in the league and the number of young people taking part this year has grown. Representatives from the Dorset Funeral Plan, which sponsors the league, presented trophies to the top performing clubs in each division. The overall award for Performance of the Season went to Broadstone Cricket Club. John Ridout, treasurer of the League, said: “Broadstone did amazingly well this year. They won the Premier League as well as Eivision Seven and did well in Division Eight. “Cerne Valley Seconds team was a worthy runner-up for Performance of the Season – they worked hard to encourage youngsters into the sport and displayed great spirit and sportsmanship. “We’re very grateful for the sponsorship from Dorset Funeral Plan – it has enabled us to keep charges down for players and it covered our admin costs.” Other results in the Saturday League included a win for Dorchester in Division One, Shroton won Division Two, Winton Sport scooped the trophy for Division Three and Pimperne came first in Division Four. Shillingstone triumphed in Division Five, Division Six was won by Beaminster Second; Division Seven by Broadstone Third and Bridport Second won Division Eight. Dorset Funeral Plan has increased its sponsorship contribution for next year’s cricket season. |
