Asian secret weapon fights prostate cancer

Although you’ve surely seen it on the store shelf, you may have overlooked the anti-oxidant effects of herbal green tea

It’s a fact that we all age, but why is it that some of us age significantly faster than others? The answers aren’t always so simple and mankind has most definitely been searching for a fountain of youth for a long time. Asian cultures have shown us low rates of cancer that would be considered quite enviable by the people of the western world. Research has shown us that green tea is possibly the reason for the very low rates of prostate cancer among the Asian population. While it’s been recently noted that the substance, epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), contained in the green tea leaves are the most potent against the growth of cancer cells in the prostate gland as well as other types of cancer growth throughout the body.

Acting similar to other, man made, anti-cancer cell drugs such as Velcade and Bortezomib, the epigallocatechin gallate manages to inhibit the growth of cancer cells without the toxicity of the former agents. This is promising for the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute in Tampa, FL (www.moffitt.org). The Moffitt Institute is devoted to developing and discovering cures for cancer. U.S. News and World Report cites the Moffitt Institute as one of the best hospitals for cancer in America. Their team includes a number of participating affiliates and maintains locations throughout Florida, Georgia and Puerto Rico and they are a member of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network.

On the other side of this health care issue, we see the pharmaceutical manufacturers who are looking for profitable new drugs to market. They don’t all want to see a cure brought to market thanks to the high profitability of the newly patented drugs made to treat the complications of such chronic diseases as cancer, AIDS and diabetes for example. The fact is, these health conditions are the most serious and they lead to incredible amount of not only lost production but also lost quality of life.

People with these diseases are constantly begging for a new pill to ease the pain, but the industry fails to maintain the transparency that’s needed in order to prevent profit motives from driving the prescription product line. Natural cures such as substances found in the leaves of abundant green tea plant will most surely not be as profitable as a prevention tool as the higher priced pharmaceutical drugs that are made to treat angst ridden illnesses that are already in progress. We need to get past this point where people are still naïve to the dangers of excessive corporate power. The health care and health insurance industry are also major players in this game. Until people stop depending on their doctors alone and start doing their own research and preventing their own diseases, the corporations will keep the American population on a long leash.
