A father and son team from Glossop saw their work in the building preservation industry rewarded at a top industry event. George Hockey and his son James, 30, were each honoured by the Property Care Association (PCA) at its annual conference, held at Wembley Stadium. Both men work at Trace, located in Hadfield, where George is managing director and James is a director. Last year, George retired as director and chairman of the council of the PCA and to mark his contribution to the trade body the members presented him with a gift of book vouchers at the Wembley conference. In a separate presentation, James, who has recently been studying for exams with the PCA, secured the student of the year in their highly-specialised remedial treatment surveying exam. The event caps off a successful twelve months for both men. In June last year, Trace – which was founded in 1974 by George and specialises in basement conversions - moved to new premises in Hadfield to accommodate its expansion. James said: “It was a great day for us both.” The PCA – which incorporates the British Wood Preserving and Damp Proofing Association – is a trade body that represents expert contractors, manufacturers and surveyors who specialise in damp-proofing, wood preservation, structural waterproofing and structural maintenance. Although George is now retired from the management of the PCA, James has since taken on a new role in the trade body - he has been asked to join the Association’s marketing committee, to help promote the organisation. Yasmin Chopin, executive director of the PCA, which is based in Huntingdon, said: “George has spent much of the 33 years that he has been in the industry promoting and working on raising standards with the Association, through the development of training courses and examinations for surveyors and technicians. “We were delighted to see James perform so well in the qualifications that his father has played a key role in developing over the years.” http://www.property-care.org ENDS Notes To EditorsThe PCA is a member of TrustMark the scheme supported by the Government, to help property owners find reliable and trustworthy tradespeople to make home improvements. Its list of contractor members located across the UK are all carefully vetted before being awarded membership - and are then subject to rigorous auditing procedures once admitted to the Association. As well as delivering a trusted repair procedure, PCA members are able to carry out specialist surveys as part of the house-buying procedure to identify potential problems – as well as a range of other services designed to preserve and protect homes and buildings across the UK. To find a PCA member log on to www.property-care.org and select the ‘Find A Member’ service. Press release issued by Jane Shepherd of Shepherd PR Limited, 01538 308685, mobile 07985 129315. |
