Significant interest has been generated in the launch of a revolutionary new wood alternative material, Exwood, to be unveiled by Smith Bros - Enviro Materials into the UK market at Ecobuild – Cityscape2008. “Eco-conscious architects and forward thinking companies from across all sectors have been contacting us already requesting samples” says Séverine Obertelli, Sales Manager of Smith Bros – Enviro Materials. “We were aware that the UK market was ready for this kind of innovative eco-friendly material but have been pleasantly surprised by the high levels of interest shown …”. Manufactured from scrap materials, the use of Exwood, particularly in cladding applications, has been very positive given its many positive credentials: eco-friendly material, low maintenance, fire retardant, good thermal properties, waterproof & weatherproof plus totally recyclable at end of life. Exwood is being displayed not only at stand C5 at Ecobuild-Cityscape2008 but also has been specifically awarded the opportunity to feature in the ‘Road to Zero Carbon’ area of Ecobuild-Cityscape2008. Within this selective section of the event Exwood cladding will show off its eco-friendly properties and its beautiful wood like finish. That said cladding is certainly not the only application for which Exwood can be used: outdoor decking, cityscape seating, fencing plus internal applications such as wet rooms and bathrooms. From simple garden and swimming pool decking to marina’s and modern Exwood clad five star hotels, architects have already found huge potential in such an ideal material for a world adapting to climate change.
