The Slant ( http://www.theslant.co.uk/ ) is a new topical online magazine that offers discerning UK readers an alternative take on the news and current affairs from a witty, intelligent perspective and, more often than not, the end of a tether. By reporting the news with opinion, sarcasm and some traditional British cynicism, The Slant aims to poke fun where it needs poking and expose the ridiculousness and stupidity lurking in high places. Not to mention a few low ones. But it's not just about what the writers have to say. The Slant also acts as a forum for discussion and debate where readers are encouraged to give their own views and opinions in response to any of the issues covered. Alongside news The Slant will also include a number of regular features, starting with The Slant's Completely Frivolous Interview. Part whimsy, part psychological test, it side-steps the usual spin and book-plugging in an attempt to find out what people in the public eye really think, without actually asking them directly. First to take the plunge is the former "Voice of Radio 4", chief announcer and Today Programme newsreader Peter Donaldson. Notes for editors: Work on The Slant began in the last quarter of 2006 before being formally launched in January 2007. Founded by editor Simon Kimber the site brings together a diverse group of writers from across the UK.
