West Palm Beach, Fl - February 11, 2007 – On the heels of President Bush announcing his upcoming Latin American tour, 2008 Presidential Candidate, Daniel Imperato, commented on the timing of Bush's planned appeal to Latin America.

Going back as early as 2005, Imperato criticized our lack of effort to reach out for Latin America with such attempts as NAFTA and CAFTA.

"While our administrations have moved forward with NAFTA and CAFTA, providing the appearance of bilateral relations, the actions that we need to take in order to ensure success throughout the western hemisphere are not being done,"

President George W. Bush and first lady Laura Bush will visit Brazil, Uruguay, Colombia, Guatemala and Mexico from March 8 to 14.

"The trip will underscore the commitment of the United States to the Western Hemisphere and will highlight our common agenda to advance freedom, prosperity and social justice and deliver the benefits of democracy in the areas of health, education and economic opportunity," White House press secretary Tony Snow said.

In Brazil, for instance, Bush will be talking about energy-independence and trade.

During Imperato's visit to Brazil in November of 2006, Imperato commented, "Brazil has shown leadership with ethanol and biofuels as viable and available alternatives. Brazil has led the way for these products to compete in the world's marketplace in order to curb the oil dependency of the automobile industry in the US and the rest of the world."  

Imperato felt pleased that the Bush administration has finally decided to embrace South America.

"Our South American brothers and sisters have been crying out for our help for decades," said Imperato.

"I hope that the Bush administration is sincere about bringing real cooperation to South America.  There is great opportunity for the United States to build a strong Western Hemisphere with our neighbors to the south.  With increased cooperation in the areas of manufacturing, energy, crime control, and diplomatic relations, the United States can regain some of the strength that it has lost.  We must remember; cooperation makes strength."
