WRVS one of ten charities supporting carers week in June

WRVS is one of the ten charities supporting this year's Carers Week, the theme of which is Carers can't afford to be ill. It aims to recognise and celebrate the contribution made by the UK’s six million carers and to reach out to the many ‘hidden’ carers in the community to ensure they know where to find support. This year, Carers Week will take place on 9 – 15 June.

WRVS recognise that many of its volunteers are carers themselves and combine their work with WRVS with caring for a relative, partner, grandchildren or neighbours and friends. The work they do does a huge amount to improve the lives of older people they care for. Supporting carers in this way ensures that together WRVS and carers can help older people get more out of life.

Many celebrities have now signed up to support Carers Week.

David Jason MBE said: “Having cared for a loved one I know just how difficult and draining it can be. Some carers simply don’t get an opportunity to do things we all take for granted like visiting the doctor or spending time with family or friends at the weekend. Thank you for inviting me to support carers and Carers Week; I’m delighted to do so.”

Coronation Street actress Sally Lindsay added: “From personal experience, I know caring can demand a lot of your time and attention, which in some cases can put pressure on other areas in your life such as financial reponsibilities and relationships. These problems can prove to be exhausting and mentally gruelling and can really take its toll on your health and wellbeing. I hope that Carers Week can again help to achieve change, and make a real difference to the lives of carers in this country.”
