Over 30 WRVS employees attend special thank you presentation event Over 30 WRVS volunteers from the WRVS tea bar in the outpatients and maternity department tea bar at Caerphilly Miners Hospital attended a special presentation event on 1 July to be thanked for all their hard work and to take the opportunity to gift back £22,000 back to the hospital.
Peter Sampson, vice-chairman of Gwent Healthcare NHS Trust accepted the gift which was made possible from the contribution made by the WRVS volunteers over the last two years from profits made at tea bar.
The money has been divided among various departments including Physiotherapy, Accident and emergency department, Outpatients, Physiotherapy, Antenatal, Cardiology, and the Nantgarw ward to enable them to purchase vital equipment to benefit all the people who use the hospital.
Mr Sampson said: "I am so pleased to be present here today as I am always in awe of all the volunteers who give up their time to help the local people at this local hospital. I am also extremely pleased to be able to acknowledge the fantastic contribution you have all made in raising the sum of £22, 772.19 over the past two years.”
Many staff and sisters from the various departments who benefited from the new equipment came along to offer their thanks and explain how the equipment had helped to make such a difference to patients and staff After a celebratory lunch, a special thanks was extended to Dorothy Lewis who was retiring after 21 years of being a WRVS volunteer project manager. She received a thank you letter for her hard work and commitment to volunteering over many years from WRVS vice-chairman, Val Everitt and some flowers. But Dorothy doesn't plan on hanging up her tabard for long – she is continuing to do a shift a week at the tea bar and will help to train the new volunteer project manager in the near future.
