Lottery funded WRVS project links to community in East Sussex

WRVS’ Heritage Plus project in East Sussex launches its new community history website today which showcases the diverse and fascinating personal histories from people within Sussex, including audiovisual extracts. The site can be seen at www.heritageplus.org.uk.

WRVS’ Heritage Plus is funded by the National Lottery through the Heritage Lottery Fund. It celebrates and documents peoples individual and community histories through regular activities, events and outings.  It brings together people of all ages to explore their histories and life experiences – their shared heritage.

The aim of the website is to enable young and old to add their own family heritage for people worldwide to view and comment on.

This is an excellent way to promote positive ageing along with archiving valuable memories that would otherwise be lost. This gives everyone the opportunity to record their stories, their lives and their loves.

One of the volunteers at the project said: “It’s Interesting listening to people’s memories, entertaining joining in the fun of sharing experiences, rewarding to be part of a project preserving these memories and experiences for the future. That’s what being a WRVS Heritage Plus volunteer means to me.”

The website was designed by Community Sites and produced by WRVS Heritage Plus staff and volunteers.

The website launch will be celebrated at three venues; St. Richards Church and Community Centre in Hove; WRVS Russell Centre in Eastbourne and at WRVS’ Isobel Blackman Centre in St. Leonards-on-Sea.
