CHILDREN'S INTERNATIONAL OBESITY FOUNDATION ANNOUNCES EDEN PARTNERSHIP
Written by Lucia Kern
Saturday, 16 August 2008
Douglas Castle, Senior Advisor to the Board of Trustees of the CHILDREN'S INTERNATIONAL OBESITY FOUNDATION (CIOF) announced today that CIOF had joined forces with several other organizations in a group led by The Police Athletic League (PAL) in forming the Eden Partnership.
In a conference earlier today, Mr. Castle said, "Eden is an opportunity for urban youth-at-risk and young persons newly re-entering society from the corrections system to acquire on the job training and become gainfully employed in the rapidly growing 'green collar' sector. PAL has successfully pioneered some hydroponic gardening facilities, and it is Eden's mission to expand these facilities to make legitimate employment a realistic possibility for more of these kids.

"We at CIOF believe that PAL has discovered a powerful means toward the elimination of inner-city violence. PAL is giving many of these kids a first chance at a non-violent life, away from guns and gangs. Felix Urrutia (PAL's Executive Director) and Lin Evola-Smidt (Artist for the Art Of Peace Charitable Trust) initially had to drag me into these discussions. They have opened my eyes to something that I had thought was impossible."

Robert Hinnen, CIOF's Executive Director said, "We are delighted to work with PAL, The Council For Unity and the Art Of Peace Charitable Trust to curb youth violence. In CIOF's work with children's obesity, we have seen, all too clearly, what happens when any social, ethnic, or physically challenged group becomes discriminated against. Doors are shut on them...they often don't see that they have a choice. In building Eden, we are giving youth a choice and a real chance."
