ANNE MUNOZ-FURLONG TO APFED BOARD OF DIRECTORS For immediate releaseTuesday, May 20, 2008 The American Partnership for Eosinophilic Disorders (APFED) announced Tuesday morning the  addition of Anne Munoz-Furlong to its board of directors. Ms. Munoz-Furlong brings with her 17 years experience gained as the founder, president and CEO of the Food Allergy & Anaphylaxis Network. Eosinophilic disorders are closely linked to food allergies, often requiring a severely restricted diet as its long-term treatment.  Munoz-Furlong “has made a difference in all aspects of food allergy: education, research and legislation,” said Beth Mays, founder and president of APFED. “There is no part of food allergy that she hasn’t touched and we are delighted and tremendously honored to have her join our team.” The timing couldn’t be better as the announcement coincides with National Eosinophil Awareness Week. Eosinophilic gastrointestinal disorders (EGIDs) are  being increasingly recognized. Incidence of eosinophilic esophagitis (EE), one of the types of EGIDs, has increased rapidly in recent years with an estimated prevalence of 1 in 2000. As awareness and the diagnosis rate of eosinophilic disorders increases, the non-profit APFED must also expand. Ms. Munoz-Furlong is an inspiration to all families managing food allergies. The APFED team is thrilled to have her on its team to help guide and grow the organization.” “I am honored to join APFED’s Board of Directors and look forward to doing all I can to help the organization grow and expand their services to the thousands of parents and children affected by eosinophilic diseases.” Said Anne Munoz-Furlong.
