Performing are KATIA MORAES & Pure Samba with classic Sambas, Marchinhas and Frevo, - SAMBADÁ,with vocalist Dandha Da Hora and special guests Marcio Peter and Waghner Abuter from Ilé Aye playing the Samba- and the Batucada from the Rio de Janeiro Street Carnaval, - the spectacular Reggae groove from Bahia, Brazil OYÀ BRAZIL Samba Show with DANIELA BRASIL features dancers in costumes adorned in sequins, beads and feathers, - SAMBAJAH with the best of Samba Enredo and Batacada!! - Ki-Xego Axé Dancers and DJ Izael. Plus watch the Carnaval from Rio de Janeiro aired on big screens, adding excitement to the largest carnaval party in Southern California. LOS ANGELES, January 11, 2007—This time Brazilian Carnaval in Los Angeles happens on Saturday, February 24, 2007, selling out every year. The celebration happens one week after Brazil’s own carnaval in Rio de Janeiro and Bahia, marking the beginning of the Lenten season. This year’s theme is “Peace in the World… Samba not War” .At the heart of the 2007 celebration is renown members of Brazil’s bloco afro (afro-Brazilian ensembles from Salvador, Bahia) Ilé Aye, Mario Peter, Waghner Abuter and Dandah performing vibrant and energetic carnaval beats at the QUEEN MARY in Long Beach. The party, which starts at 8:00 p.m., also features KATIA MORAES & Pure Samba with Marchinhas, Sambas and Frevo. Sambadá performs AXÈ music of Bahia and the OYA Samba Show Dancers moving to batucada rhythms in their feather-sequined bikini costumes. Authentic Brazilian food from Silvio’s Brazilian Bar B-Q and appetizers by Salgadinho’s Factory and Brazilian arts and crafts. KATIA MORAES & Pure Samba performs a perfect blend of dynamic harmonies and exhilarating rhythms, the best of Brazilian Carnaval. The band enchants audiences with the richest sounds of Brazil; a mix of samba, marchinhas (traditional carnaval sambas), pagode, and frevo. Katia's energetic presence is beautifully complimented by the explosive power of percussion, and outstanding keyboards, guitar and bass. Los Angeles Times quote "... SAMBADÁ was Formed in 1997 by native Brazilian Papiba Godinho, it is an explosive musical group out of Santa Cruz, California that is rapidly inspiring audiences with its unique mixture of Brazilian samba and funky latin dance grooves. From the blissful rhythms of samba to hip-hop riffs, from bossa nova ballads to salsa, SambaDá's tunes are playful, vital, and energetic: they make you dance and they make you sing, they are both intimate and exuberant. Special guests are Mario Peter, Waghner Abuter from the legendary Bloco afro Ile Ayé perfoming pulsating percussion rhythms of Salvador, Bahia. The OYA Brazil Samba Show Dancers, led by director-choreographer Daniela, complete the party as they offer its audiences a visual feast with extravagant performances of samba, frevo, axé, and capoeira, a traditional martial arts dance. Comprised of a diverse team of talented dancers, this local ensemble of 15 radiates with sheer energy and passion. This exuberant exotic show was created authentically in Brazil. Brazilian mysticism, folklore, energy, creativity and enthusiasm radiates from the performances. Using all the best dancers and singers of Brazil, the performers themselves represent the many cultural backgrounds of the people in Brazil, bringing to life a resemblance of the colors of Brazil. The official Master of Ceremonies of the carnaval is the talented dancer and choreographer AYANNA CONTRERAS. Queen Mary Brazilian Carnaval 2007 will be airing the carnaval from Rio de Janeiro on big screens throughout the event, courtesy of Dish Network and TV Globo (Brazilian's main TV Channel). This will give people the opportunity to experience the real thing while celebrating miles away from Rio de Janeiro. All ages are welcome, after all Carnaval in Brazil is for everyone. A trip to Rio de Janeiro will be given away, courtesy of LAN Airlines. Costumes are welcome! Participants are allowed and encouraged to bring cameras to the event (no video cameras). Authentic Brazilian food catered by Silvio’s Brazilian Bar B-Q, appetizers by Salgadinho Factory, Brahma Brazilian Beer, Rio Joe’s – Wines of Brazil and Golly Guarana (Brazil’s Classic Soft Drink), and the best CAIPIRINHA’S by LiveLoveLeblon as well as crafts, clothing and a variety of Brazilian items will be available for purchase.
