Private Cosmetic Surgery Becomes Increasingly Popular

The number of people opting for private cosmetic surgery to improve or alter their appearance, excluding botox injections, has risen sharply over 2007, according to a survey by industry advice group TheCosmeticSurgeon.net.

Edinburgh, UK, 8 February 2008 ( Freepressreleases ) - - The number of people opting for invasive cosmetic procedures over the course of 2007 has risen dramatically, according to a study into cosmetic surgery habits by industry resource TheCosmeticSurgeon.net.

Excluding botox injections, the number of people opting for cosmetic procedures skyrocketed over 2007, with more and more choosing private surgeries and consultants to carry out their procedures without fully researching or reading up on their choice.  The news alarmed James Baird, Senior Advisor to TheCosmeticSurgeon.net.

"Having worked for most of my career with sufferers of burns and horrific injuries, I find the growing trend of purely cosmetic plastic surgery both frightening and worrying.  This is big business, and there are many out there practising that simply don't have the ability or the qualifications to do so.  I'm afraid people aren't doing their research thoroughly enough, and that could lead to serious problems along the line for a number of those undergoing cosmetic work."

Whilst cosmetic surgery is widely used in treating accident victims, it is also becoming more popular for purely aesthetic purposes which the report suggests has given rise to an undercurrent of unqualified private practitioners, many of whom have very little experience across the range of operations they are asked to perform and some who are not adequately qualified to perform such significant surgical procedures.
