Lives can be considerably improved with a cutting-edge pressure monitor which increases the accuracy of leg ulcer treatment; to be launched at Medica 2007 - the world’s largest healthcare technologies trade fair on November 13-17 in Germany.
The ‘Vowden Trainer’ aid for healthcare professionals, created by UK based Ulsys, works by accurately measuring the application of pressure under a bandage applied over leg ulcers; indicating exactly how much pressure the bandage is generating.
Healthcare professionals currently estimate, with considerable variation, how much pressure is applied with a bandage. The ‘Vowden Trainer’ helps teach them how to apply the correct pressure by improving on the current method of training in leg ulcer management; saving vital working time too.
Ulsys developed this solution in response to the problems brought about by inconsistent pressure application and with the support of leaders in the clinical community and bandage assessment fields. As well as healthcare, the technology has been applied into other applications such as measuring pressure under sportswear.
Mick Karol, Managing Director of Ulsys, said: “Pressure sores and venous leg ulcers are the most common form of chronic wounds in the Western world; with 1 in 100 adults affected at some time. We have developed the Vowden Trainer to allow for greater accuracy in the treatment of such wounds and are delighted to be demonstrating the device at Medica 2007; where we are looking to source distributors and joint venture partners.” Prof Peter Vowden, Head of the Department of Vascular Surgery and Wound Healing at the Bradford Royal Infirmary, who has been involved in the creation of the Trainer, said: “This revolutionary device provides a much needed solution for training in the treatment of leg ulcers. It allows healthcare professionals to ascertain the exact level of pressure they are applying with the bandage and hopefully allows them to improve effectiveness and safety of care.“ See the ‘Vowden Trainer’ at Medica in hall 16, stand G10-1-B |
