A self exiled Briton from Bedfordshire living on a Greek island chose India for his double knee replacements. Dismal quality of orthopedic surgery in the UK's NHS with increasing number of botched up cases as in Wales compelled him to seek quality medical treatment abroad. Double Hi flex knee replacements were performed by an Indian knee specialist DR.A.K.Venkatachalam, who had trained in the UK.
2007-02-11 When Knee osteoarthritis struck him hard and cramped his zeal for outdoor activities, JN, a 64 year old Briton settled in Greece chose India for his double Knee replacements. Good weather, costs and love of Indian food were the deciding factors for him. High quality and affordable double knee replacements were his priority and these were provided to his utter satisfaction by an Indian orthopedic surgeon in the south east coastal city of Madras or Chennai. In a ever growing trend, many senior UK citizens have relocated outside Britian in Europe and look out side their settled location for medical treatment abroad, Orthopaedic surgery like Knee replacement surgery, full knee replacements, partial replacement, Hi flex knee replacement, Hip resurfacing, Proxima hip replacements are the common procedures sought after. Surgery in the NHS does'nt enamour them and they find the cost of private surgery in the UK unaffordable. Private surgery in other Eurpoean countries is not attractive either and they rather choose to come to India for treatment. Indian Doctors like DR.Venkatachalam have successfully treated many British patients. ID, a real estate manager from Luton UK checked out of a London hospital at the last minute and flew to India for her Knee replacement. Three months after her surgery in India, her pain is considerably reduced. She underwent a medical examination by her UK orthopedic surgeon and GP who remarked "Today I was seen by the hospital orthopaedic specialist to assess my medication for the arthritis. He is more than happy with the mobility of the knee being more than 90 degree movement. My GP is very pleased with the operation. He says he does not beleive I could have had anything better in the UK and most certainly the risk of infection is so much greater here:many patients are returning to hospital and having the knee opened up again because infection had set in. He says the scar has healed very well. Vouches another patient MC from North east England, after her six monthly review in the UK, A week ago I saw the orthopaedic surgeon who would have done the op here. His xray showed the new knee was fine!!! The bend on my knee today was 130 no worries there!! Hi flex knees or knees that provide deep knee bending, or the "Prayer knee" as it popularly known in Islamic countries like Pakistan and the middle east are preferred by patients as they offer more functional aiblities than standard knee replacements.Hindu and Muslim customs of kneeling for Namaz or prayer ar impossible to attain with standard knee surgery. Costs of knee surgery in India are extremely affordable about 3500 pounds only vs 9000 pounds in the UK. Modern Indian hospitals like the Bharathi raja hospital provide top class facilties like Operating rooms with Laminar air flow, spacious rooms and tender Nursing care.
