The following information is required to check eligibility:

1. Patient’s correct Medicare number

2. Date of birth

3. First and last name 

4. Date of service

The results contain the following information:

1.      Patient’s Medicare eligibility status.

2.      REMAINING deductible amount.  This is important because the office will know how much money to collect from the patient at the time of the visit.  Depending on the practice management software vendor, if Medicare is made aware on the claim that the office collected the patient’s deductible while another physician already collected it, Medicare will refund the patient.

3.       Did the patient opt out of Medicare and now has an HMO?
