UNSIGNED BAND COUNT CHRIS MARTIN AS A FAN
FINKA is the word that seems to be on more than a few people’s minds and mouths. Having wowed festival goers at Glastonbury and played Headline sets at Manchester’s Academy 3 they have built an obsessively devoted fan base which has been cultivated by frenzied word of mouth and demos given away for free at gigs. It’s also helped that influential fans such as Glastonbury organiser Emily Eavis and Coldplay front man Chris Martin have sung their praises not to mention the nation’s radio stations including XFM, Virgin and the BBC. Today though sees them relaxing following their sell out intimate launch  of their new EP ‘Find Your Own Adventure’ at Dublin Castle in Camden last Friday.

The band exploited the iTunes phenomenon to great effect at the beginning of the year to showcase some of their back catalogue and having generated four figure sales in less than three months, they decided to leak the new EP on MySpace with word of mouth quickly spreading having amassed over six thousand listens since March. Embracing the internet in this way has lead them to gain new fans worldwide with a recent gig in London attracting people from as far away as Latvia and Japan. Antra who’d flown over to London with friends from Latvia for the bands Water Rats gig said “… Indie music hasn’t really reached us in Latvia, it’s still a pop music culture and the internet has been the only way we can listen to bands. FINKA were played on an internet radio show here in January and we were immediately hooked, so we organised a London trip around their show - they we’re brilliant and we can’t wait to come back.”

Ask the band about their rising success and their growing celebrity fanbase and they stand in amazement at how far and wide their music has spread thanks to sites like MySpace; “We get comments from America, Japan, India… the list goes on,” says the bands front man Jimmy Frith, “but we never imagined people would actually fly over to see us. As an unsigned band you just don’t expect that, but we love it all the same.” It’s not only the fans that have been won over by this Manchester based four piece; reviews from the industry have also been glowing;

‘There’s something about these songs that makes you feel like life is terribly exciting. FINKA have that certain unnameable something which suggests that you are hearing something very special before anyone else’
XFM – Marsha Shandur

‘Every so often there’s a band – like, say, local boys FINKA – who really hit the spot’
NME

‘Expect big things from FINKA, they have the talent to produce them’
BBC Manchester – Chris Long

''Now we come onto the Kings of the night. John Peel mentioned he had tears of joy every time he heard a band that was special. Maybe I'm over Blowing it but Finka almost make you get the same feeling...”
Chris Watson, Sandman Magazine

FINKA, a four piece Indie Rock band made up of musicians from both Manchester and Leeds, are Jimmy Frith (Vocals), Adam Coy (Guitar), Matthew Jepson (Bass Guitar) and Ben Coates (Drums & Backing Vocals).  Finka have an unwavering belief in the truth and purity of their music and the band's present momentum is no surprise given Finka's indisputable musical talents.

The band will soon be touring throughout the UK at venues in Birmingham, Manchester, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Cardiff, Leicester and London to promote the new EP.
