Correspondents of Radio Netherlands Worldwide (RNW) around the globe are now working with ‘LUCI live two’, the software application for live radio reporting. From the most remote regions, the news can be delivered simply and live, and therefore fast, from a mobile phone or laptop computer. Radio Netherlands Worldwide is the first Dutch broadcaster to start using this innovative technology on a large scale. What’s more, the application is also suitable for use on websites and blogs, and therefore fits in perfectly with the cross-media strategy of RNW.
Media and content delivery solutions for Internet, broadband, and mobile applications is no novelty anymore. Receiving news and content via the mobile network is however a new development. It’s a breakthrough to be able to stream live studio quality content from a mobile at the radiostation , in MP4. The software has been widely tested at RNW. Generally there is always a good Internet and/or satellite connection available everywhere. Furthermore, the technical procedures and equipment in the studio don’t have to be modified. RNW is also adopting the software for the editing and transmission of MP2 audio files.
Radio Netherlands Worldwide is the international public broadcaster of the Netherlands. Via radio, TV and Internet the station informs tens of millions of people a week about developments in the Netherlands, Europe and the World. For them, RNW is the independent, objective, impartial and trustworthy news source, worldwide, 24/7.
The LUCI software is developed by Technica Del Arte, a manufacturer of innovative audio software and hardware in Maastricht. In 2004, the first easy-to-use application was launched, and has subsequently been further developed. The BBC and Belgium’s Flemish public broadcaster VRT are already using the professional software in their daily transmissions. The software is very user-friendly, and therefore also of interest for user generated content or citizen journalism, a trend being embraced by many broadcasters, publishers and newsgroups.
