Sweet and Refreshing
Written by Michael Scholand

Having been awarded a Master’s degree in Translating & Interpreting at the University of
Salamanca, Sergio first gained experience as a translator and project manager before
steering his career in a completely different direction. He took on the position of sales
representative at Luxottica Group, the world’s leading designer, manufacturer and distributor
of prescription frames and sunglasses in the premium and luxury markets. Over his three years
in sales he earned successive promotions culminating in taking on responsibility for all the
Northern Provinces of Spain.
“During my period at Luxottica I gathered invaluable experience”, says Sergio, “but after
three years, I felt the urge to return to what I felt was my real passion: multilingual
communication and the market for localisation and translation. All the market research points
to strong and sustained growth, and that is what makes this market so very attractive.
Additionally, the traditional organisation of the translation sector has gone through
fundamental and fascinating changes in recent years. The interaction between human
disciplines and high-tech is also intriguing, and for me STAR Servicios Lingüísticos reflects the
whole dynamic of the industry; a youthful but experienced team from different nationalities
and backgrounds, a deeply rooted respect for language, cultures and the profession of the
translator, combined with excellent technical skills. This team has spirit and it aims beyond
simple economic success”.
This new position will provide a key component in STAR Servicios Lingüísticos’ growth plans”,
anticipates Michael Scholand, the German CEO of the Barcelona based multilingual
language vendor. “Now that the product and presales department is racing full speed
ahead, this reinforcement of the sales department will provide the final link in the chain that
will help us to develop new and enduring client relationships”, “Sergio will focus on lead
generation, client acquisition and retention for both our services and products, and he will
carry out these tasks in constant coordination with the production and IT departments.”
