Two men have died and another has been seriously injured in a huge explosion at a winery in the Hunter Valley area of Australia.

Two men have died and another has been seriously injured in a huge explosion at a winery in the Hunter Valley area of Australia.

The bodies of the owner and head winemaker Mr. Trevor Drayton, 52, and an unnamed man, thought to be a contract welder working on the site, were recovered overnight from the main wine plant at Pokolbin.

Another man, named as Mr. William Rikard-Bell, an assistant winemaker, suffered serious burns and was airlifted to Sydney’s Concord Hospital. Although Mr. Rikard-Bell is thought to have sustained 80per cent burns and was in a critical condition, the hospital

have announced some improvement and have now listed his condition as stable.

It has been suggested, that the explosion may have been caused by sparks from welding equipment igniting ethanol fumes.

The blast ripped off some of the roof of the main wine plant at Drayton's Family Wines in the Hunter Valley, New South Wales, Australia.

Mr. Drayton, who ran the family business, was a well known figure in the Hunter Valley wine community, and was Vice President of the Hunter Valley Vineyard Association.

Investigations are taking place into the cause of the blast.
