· People who rush while they eat or do their chores at home – 50%. People who rush their children to do homework – 13%. People who rush during sex – 6%. May 8,2008 – More work responsibilities and commitments to family life are causing more accidents and giving way to Road Rage, say a recent survey by Carrentals.co.uk.The car hire comparator talked to 800 UK residents. After asking them about their lifestyles and driving patterns, 60% were found to work on any given day, and 43% said they gave into to taking chances and speeding while hurrying to get to their destination. As pressures mount due to the lack of time, about a third say they do not concentrate while they drive when they are in a hurry to go somewhere. Incidentally, 1 in 10 say they have experienced accidents or injuries because of driving in a hurried manner. Some of them said they backed up into lampposts, drove straight into another car, lost control of their own car, and hit pedestrians in a clearly marked crossing zone. One in 10 also said they were affected by at least one incident of Road Rage due to rushing. Others described that they were followed, and flashed at, while some said they were abused physically and have had attacks on their cars. One driver even said he was pushed in front of an oncoming car. Interestingly enough, survey participants said they what upset them the most was being late for meetings – 41% admitted this as the main cause for over speeding. Picking up kids from school was another reason for worry among drivers. Getting to work was also a major concern, while keeping a date waiting was the fourth most common reason for rushing. Even while away from the road, respondents described themselves as typically eating and doing house chores very quickly due to lack of time. Opposite to common thinking, they even said they hurried through conversations with friends. And 6.5 percent admitted to having sex in a hurried manner. Gareth Robinson, who is the managing director of Carrentals.co.uk said about the research that it is common knowledge that we all suffer from lack of time due to our commitments to our work and families. However, he also warned that the study should be taken to heart because it shows that UK drivers are driving faster than ever. He added that not concentrating while driving due to rushing or speedy could prove to be fatal. And drivers should remind themselves, the next time they are in a hurry, not to speed up, but to slow down.
