A new scheme to encourage young people to be more ecologically friendly with the use of their gadgets and appliances has been launched.
According to the Press Association, a new online carbon calculator will show just how much energy is used by simple misuse of electrical consumer items such as leaving mobile phones on charge for too long or leaving television sets on standby. It is reported that the initiative, named the iTrod and put together as part of a project by MTV, has been specifically designed for younger users and hopes to make them aware of the effect that energy wastage has on the planet. David Lynn, executive vice president and managing director of MTV Networks in the UK and Ireland said that although many householders were increasingly aware of the need to save energy more needed to be done to bring the message to a wider audience. "That's why we've created the online calculator, which will be hosted on www.mtv.co.uk but also available through an embed for websites or weblogs," he said. Domestic & General is the UK's leading provider of extended warranty and breakdown insurance for domestic appliances and boilers. |
