New regulations have set a system in place that if you should purchase a car in 2010 and it emits more than 130g of CO2 per kilometre you travel you will have to pay the “first year rate” charge. The charges range from £115 for a BMW 3 Series all the way to £950 if you are lucky enough to drive a Porsche Cayman S. With only 99g/km of CO2 emissions, this little diesel Polo is at the very top of the list for least CO2 emissions. With all the standard features you would expect from a Polo, this is sure to be a winner in coming years and its price won’t hurt your pocket that much either. The only supermini on our list, it is tied for first place for the lowest carbon emissions with 99g/km. Even though the Seat might not be at the top of your list of renowned cars, there can be no doubting its practicality. With only 109g/km the Civic Hybrid is very light on the environment and it is also the cheapest hybrid car in the UK. It is unfortunately only available with an automatic gearbox, but we can see past that, because this is great value for money. The Ford Focus is Britain’s favourite car and this ECOnetic is the green version of the beloved Focus. With only 115g/km its CO2 emissions are very low and it is sure to be a great drive. The Prius was the first pure hybrid available to the general public and its popularity has increased over the years and with only 104 g/km emissions, there is no doubt that your money will be well spent. So let us find you a car insurance policy that will help save you some money while you do your part to save the environment?
