RAC Has Found Cost of Motoring in UK Has Fallen

The cost of motoring in the UK has fallen by 18 per cent in the last two decades and is cheaper than it was in 1988, a report has claimed.

An RAC study has found that the cost of driving has dropped, despite the price of fuel rising by 210 per cent over the last 20 years, which may interest car insurance customers.

The RAC surveyed over 1,000 people and found that 60 per cent thought that costs would have risen over the 20 year period.

However, motorists that were questioned said that the biggest change on UK roads over the last 20 years has been the increase in aggressive driving.

One in three of those surveyed said they had been victims of aggressive behaviour from other motorists and had been physically threatened.

A further 50 per cent of motorists admitted they had shouted, swore or made rude gestures at other drivers.

RAC motoring strategist Adrian Tink said: "There have been some startling changes in British motoring over the last 20 years and the car is now an integral part of everyday British life. All eyes are focused on rising fuel prices but there's another menace on our roads that we can control - our own behaviour."

He added it is "shocking" more drivers than ever before are admitting to shouting and swearing at other motorists and said that the behaviour is "downright dangerous" when considering that they are behind the wheel of a car.

In related news, researchers in the US have found that motorists who put personalised items on a car or van, such as bumper stickers, are more likely to engage in road rage as they are territorial about their vehicle.
