Specialist insurance website www.protection-insurance.com is warning motorists who are due to renew their car insurance at the end of the month not to be scared out of their wits and stick with their current insurance provider when they could shop around and make savings up to £140

Specialist insurance website www.protection-insurance.com is warning motorists who are due to renew their car insurance at the end of the month not to be scared out of their wits and stick with their current insurance provider when they could shop around and make savings up to £140 (1).

Most insurers hope that apathy will kick in and that their customers will just renew automatically.  However, car insurance rates are changing all the time and the market is more competitive than it was 12 months ago. This is an ideal time for customers to go in search of a new car insurance deal.

Jason Hulott from Protection Insurance says:  "One of the things the Internet has done is empowered the consumer to shop around. They can now have a huge choice, which 10 years ago, would have only been possible through a broker. And even then there was no guarantee they were searching a large panel of insurance companies. By using an Online Directory or Insurance Aggregator, a customer can now search 50 or 60 providers and choose from over 100 different products in half an hour or so.

"The scary thing is  that people simply can't be bothered to shop around and will often just renew with their current insurer when they could spend less than 30 minutes looking around, potentially saving themselves over £140(1) and at least 10%(2) on their premiums."

Hulott suggests that before simply renewing with your current provider, take a few minutes to have a look around the market.  He cites Protection Insurance as example - it lists over 30 Car Insurance providers ranging from Brokers, Direct Insurers and Supermarket brand insurance so you will be sure you will be looking at a large section of the marketplace.
