There are a number of easy steps you can take to prevent your car and belongings from being targeted by thieves. And if you do get hit by thieves, your car insurance should cover the cost of repairs and the replacement of items in your car. Read on for some helpful advice on how to secure and protect your car from theft. · Out of sight Never leave anything of value on display in your car. Keep shopping bags, phones, your sat nav, anything that might tempt a thief locked securely away in your boot. · Immobilise An immobiliser is widely regarded as the most effective way of preventing thieves from stealing your car. A professionally fitted engine immobiliser will stop your car from starting unless you have deactivated it. · Steering lock A steering lock can help prevent any would-be thieves from stealing your car. · Car alarms A professionally fitted car alarm is an excellent thief deterrent. · Locking wheel nuts Stop thieves from stealing your wheels with cheap, easy to fit locking wheel nuts. · Etch your windows Get your car registration number etched onto your windscreen, all car windows and your headlamps. · Security markings You can also mark your car equipment like your stereo, sat nav etc. with your car registration number. · Park wisely If you have a lockable garage at home, use it. If not, always try to park your car in a well-lit, open space. · Secure car parks If you’re out and about and have to park your car, go for an attended car park. Look for the police-approved Safer Parking Scheme ‘Park Man’ sticker · Do a stolen car check If you’re in the market for a new car, run a stolen car check before you buy. You should also check that it has not been previously written off by an insurance company. You can run a check on any car at www.hpicheck.com.
For complete peace of mind on and off the road, make sure you have the right car insurance. For more information about the types of car insurance available from Privilege, visit http://www.privilege.com. |
