This week’s Logistics Bulletin reports on further M&A activity across the logistics and express sectors with developments in South Korea, India, Brazil and the UK.
In India, UPS Jetair Express announced a strategic alliance with AFL that will significantly expand accessibility to UPS services in the country, while providing export capabilities to AFL. Also this week, trading updates in the form of quarterly or interim results have been posted by Christian Salvesen, CEVA, Maersk and ABX LOGISTICS. Amongst contract news, business wins were reported across Europe, the US and Asia by Wincanton, Cougar Express, Ryder and Shippers Warehouse. Elsewhere, supply chain technology developments feature prominently this week, with news of cost savings and supply chain optimisation at the Co-op, Constellation Europe, Pella Corporation and Ocean Spray. Rhenus Logistics enters Brazil Handle logistics services for sugar and other goods, including coffee, chemicals, tiles, paper and cellulose The Rhenus Group is continuing to expand its global network by setting up a subsidiary company in Brazil. The new company operating under the name “RMK Logistics do Brasil” will handle logistics services required for sugar and other products. Because Europe is cutting its exports of sugar in the wake of changes to the law and a cut in subsidies, the Maxx Group of Companies, a member of the Rhenus Group, wanted to provide its customers with a solution to the expanding, but difficult logistics market in Brazil. Maxx Logistics has jointly set up RMK Logistics do Brasil and its own subsidiary KGSB Logistics in Hamburg. The new subsidiary in Santos will handle logistics services for sugar and other goods, including coffee, chemicals, tiles, paper and cellulose. The Rhenus Group has annual turnover of €3.0 billion, making it one of the world’s leading logistics contractors. It has over 14,000 employees based at 230 locations worldwide.
