Historical Commentary with a Southern Spin, The Journey by Frances Bennett, Spearsville, La.
Written by Frances Bennett

The Journey, a historical fiction novel, is now ready for purchase. It is set in 1899, and tells the story of my maternal grandparents, Lona and Charlie Stegall, coming on a wagon train to homestead and raise a family in Union County, Arkansas. My grandmother fought cougars and worked beside my grandfather to tame the land. Frances Bennett delved into her memories as a nine year old as she sat at her grandmother's feet in front of a crackling fire on cold winter nights and listened to her tell about fording rivers and burying the dead on The Journey to Southern Arkansas. Frances introduced this as a serialized column in a Union Parish paper. From questions to the editor as to whether this was to be a book, the seed was planted and from this came, The Journey.
