Nottingham based Hillarys has made it into the 2008 edition of the Guinness Book of World Records as the manufacturer of the world's biggest vertical blind.
The blind, measuring 20m wide and 8.3 metres high - 75 times the size of a normal vertical blind - was made to mark the official opening of the company's new factory in Washington, Tyne & Wear in January 2003. "Our record breaking attempt to create the world's largest vertical blind was one approach to celebrate the launch in a really unusual way," said David Burke, manufacturing director at Hillarys. "It was a feat of engineering to make a blind of these proportions and although it was a verified as a world record back in 2003, we're delighted that it now not only appears in the latest edition of the Guinness Book of Records but actually on the flysheet." The blind was unveiled by Denise Welch, who is currently starring as Steph Haydock in Waterloo Road and was a former landlady of the Rover's Return in Coronation Street. Notes to editors: Hillarys core business is it’s made to measure blinds service where the firm's advisers measure up and fit blinds. It has also developed an online service Web-Blinds dot com and sales of awnings and shutters. The company also sells to trade customers under the brand name Arena and to non-residential commercial customers through a separate division, Hcd.
